Main Street Arts offers a variety of artistic events throughout the year and the Saxtons River Playhouse is one of New England's few remaining "stock" summer theaters, where young professionals are given that first big break, the chance for the lead, the opportunity to succeed.
Since 1876, Saxtons River has been the home of Vermont Academy, an innovative college preparatory school. And don't miss the 4th of July parade.
Bellows Falls, 5 miles to our east, is a vibrant and eclectic community and is an excellent example of how the creative drive can revitalize an entire downtown. Come experience the energy and successes that come through involvement with the arts! Also nearby, the village of Putney is home to the internationally renowned Sandglass Theater. The towns of Grafton, Chester and Woodstock are all within easy driving distance and offer a magnitude of things to do.
Outdoor activities include walking, hiking, biking, kayaking and canoeing, swimming, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoing, sleigh rides and snowball throwing. Porch sitting and hanging out are also great to engage in. And if you visit in the fall we offer leaf raking for the weary city dweller longing to live “the country life.”
